The 118th Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade runs Wednesday through Sunday, December 16 to 20, 2026. Each night it starts at about 6:30 p.m. at the Tip of Lido Isle and is expected to finish back there around 9:00 p.m. On the official route map, the boats reach Woody's Wharf at 6:51 p.m. and pass Peninsula Point Beach at 7:25 p.m. before crossing the channel toward Pirate's Cove. That puts about 34 minutes of the parade along the Peninsula's bay side, the longest unbroken stretch of shoreline on the map.
That changes how a Peninsula evening can go. The boats take a while to pass any single point, so you can follow them along the shore. The estimated times also work alongside the nightly drone show at Peninsula Park, so a resident can fit two shows and the boats into one evening near the Fun Zone.
The Peninsula's 34 minutes, mark by mark
The Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce hosts the parade and has published a 2026 route map with an estimated time for each numbered viewing point. Here is the Peninsula portion:
| Est. time | Map point |
|---|---|
| 6:51 p.m. | Woody's Wharf |
| 6:52 p.m. | Peninsula Village: Buona Forchetta, CasaDami, Shorebird |
| 6:54 p.m. | Marina Park |
| 6:55 p.m. | Lighthouse Café |
| 6:56 p.m. | American Legion Yacht Club |
| 6:57 p.m. | 15th Street Beach |
| 7:02 p.m. | 10th Street Beach |
| 7:05 p.m. | Newport Harbor Yacht Club |
| 7:14 p.m. | Newport Landing Restaurant, Balboa Boat Rentals, Newport Landing Sportfishing |
| 7:15 p.m. | Balboa Peninsula Ferry Landing, Balboa Fun Zone, Harborside Restaurant / Balboa Pavilion |
| 7:16 p.m. | Catalina Passenger Service, Davey's Locker |
| 7:25 p.m. | Peninsula Point Beach |
The pace is uneven. The boats cover Woody's Wharf to 15th Street Beach in six minutes. Then they take 18 minutes to get from 15th Street Beach to the Fun Zone, with a stretch through the Bay Island channel along the way. Peninsula Point comes another 10 minutes after that. On the far shore, the map shows Pirate's Cove at 7:32 p.m. and Channel Reef / China Cove at 7:33 p.m., so the Point is the last Peninsula view before the boats head over to Corona del Mar. All of these times are estimates. The parade site recommends arriving early for the best viewing.
How the drone shows fit around the boats
The drone shows return for 2026 at two sites, over the Balboa Bay Resort and from Peninsula Park near the Fun Zone. The parade website calls this an expansion, but both locations were also used in 2025. The Orange County Register reported nightly shows over the Balboa Bay Club and Peninsula Park during the 117th parade.
Peninsula Park shows are scheduled for 6:45 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on all five nights. The parade is expected at the Fun Zone at 7:15 p.m., which falls almost exactly between the two shows. For someone who lives in Balboa Village or toward the Point, an evening could look like this:
- 6:45 p.m.: first drone show at Peninsula Park.
- 7:14 to 7:16 p.m.: the boats pass Newport Landing, the ferry landing, the Fun Zone, the Balboa Pavilion and Davey's Locker.
- 7:25 p.m.: the parade reaches Peninsula Point Beach.
- 8:00 p.m.: second drone show at Peninsula Park.
The west end of the Peninsula sees the boats earlier and closer together. Woody's Wharf at 6:51, Marina Park at 6:54, 15th Street Beach at 6:57 and 10th Street Beach at 7:02 all fall within 11 minutes. On the parade's estimates, someone watching at 15th Street Beach has 18 minutes before the same boats reach the Fun Zone. That's how you see the parade twice in one night, in two parts of the Peninsula.
Opening night follows a different schedule
Wednesday, December 16, adds two things that happen only once. At Marina Park, 1600 W Balboa Blvd., the opening-night event starts at 4 p.m. The free Holiday Market runs from 4 to 8 p.m., with more than 35 local makers, food vendors, music and children's activities, and the 2026 page names Vogels Vibes. Opening-night fireworks are set off the Newport Pier at about 6:15 p.m., as long as safety conditions allow. That gives the ocean side of the Peninsula its own start to the evening about 15 minutes before the boats leave Lido.
Marina Park covers 10.5 acres and has a 177-space lot. The parade site calls it the largest public viewing area on the route. Two pieces of official information conflict, so check both before December 16:
- Passing time. The Marina Park event page says the parade arrives at 6:45 p.m., while the route map estimates 6:54 p.m. The map is the more detailed source, so plan around 6:54 and arrive before 6:45.
- Parking. The parade site's viewing page says city lots will be open during the parade. Visit Newport Beach's parade page says the Marina Park lot will be closed on opening night. That page still labels its map as 2025 and says the 2026 route is coming soon, so it may not have been updated. The parade's parking page says lots fill quickly and recommends allowing extra time.
The parade homepage also has an outdated section. Its "2026 Grand Marshal Lineup" lists Wednesday as December 17 and calls this the 117th parade, which matches the 2025 schedule. In 2025 the parade ran December 17 to 21. This year it moves one day earlier and still runs Wednesday through Sunday. Until the site updates that section, don't count on any opening-night grand marshal it names.
Thursday adds an event at the Point
The Balboa Peninsula Point Association lists a Boat Parade & Toy Drive for Thursday, December 17, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Bay Beach, 2200 Channel Road. Christy Ruppert is listed as the organizer. The parade's Peninsula Point Beach mark is 7:25 p.m., which falls inside that window. The association's listing gives the date, time and venue only. For toy drive details, contact the organizer listed on the page.
Before then, the same association lists a Chili Cook-Off on October 24 from noon to 3 p.m. at L Street Park, 327 L Street.
Restaurant seats along the route
The parade's Dine & Watch list includes restaurants on the water at known times. The Peninsula entries, in route order:
- Woody's Wharf, 2318 Newport Blvd.: 6:51 p.m.
- CasaDami, 2210 Newport Blvd.; Shorebird Restaurant, 2220 Newport Blvd. #101; Buona Forchetta, 2280 Newport Blvd. #104: 6:52 p.m.
- Lighthouse Bayview Café, 1600 W Balboa Blvd.: 6:55 p.m.
- Sons of American Legion, 215 15th Street: 6:56 p.m.
- Newport Landing Restaurant, 503 East Edgewater: 7:14 p.m.
- Harborside Restaurant, 400 Main Street: 7:15 p.m.
The Dine & Walk list is for places a short walk from a viewing spot. Its Balboa Peninsula and Balboa Village entries include 21 Oceanfront at 2100 West Oceanfront, Avila's El Ranchito at 2800 Newport Blvd., Azar's Gourmet Pizza at 309 Palm Street, and Balboa Candy at 304 Main Street. Balboa Candy is on Main Street, so it works for the gap between the 7:25 pass at the Point and the 8:00 drone show.
If your house faces the parade
Bayfront homes along the route can also take part. The Ring of Lights is a judged competition for waterfront homes, businesses and yacht clubs. The entry fee is $35, and entrants may be eligible for prizes and the live broadcast. Entries are due before noon on Friday, December 11, and judging takes place Monday, December 14. That's two days before the first parade night, so lights need to be up by then for the judges to see them.
For a parade-week trip across to Balboa Island, the Balboa Island Ferry lists regular hours of 6:30 a.m. to midnight every day of the year, with no change noted for parade week. The map has the boats passing the Peninsula ferry landing at 7:15 p.m. and the Balboa Island ferry landing at 8:01 p.m. If you cross right after the 7:15 pass, you could be on the island before the parade gets there and see it a third time.
If you're thinking about a home on the Peninsula's bayfront, part of the parade route, Tyler Brown can walk you through the waterfront homes that fit how you plan to use them. Book a private consultation.
